Farm Cat
Program

What is the farm cat program?

Due to the many felines coming through our doors, we are unable to find indoor homes for them all.  To help prevent having to euthanize healthy cats due to overpopulation, we have developed a farm cat program.  We are particular about which felines we will place on farms, as they must meet certain criteria.  These cats are generally less-social.

Felines placed on farm homes must meet the following criteria:

  • Have the temperament needed to live outdoors
  • Have the skills needed to live outdoors
  • Have all claws on all paws (no declawed felines)

What vetting have these cats had?  Below is a listing:

  • Spayed / Neutered
  • Distemper vaccination(s)
  • Rabies vaccination
  • De-wormed
  • Treated for fleas/ticks
  • Feline Leukemia negative test

Farm Cat Requirements

There are a few simple requirements we have for homes taking in farm felines.  They are:

For the first 5 – 7 days, the cats must be kept enclosed (whether it be in an outbuilding, kennel, etc).  This is to allow them to adjust their ‘inner radar’ to where their new home is.

Adequate food & water must be provided year round.

Adequate shelter must be provided year round.
